Bill Kellogg Discussion Series
Our featured presenter for the month of September is Steve Chan, College Professor of Distinction Emeritus at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Professor Chan’s research interests focus on international relations, political economy, foreign policy, decision-making, and East Asia, taking cross-national and interdisciplinary approaches. His extraordinary record of scholarship has been recognized through numerous awards, including the Karl W. Deutsch award of the International Studies Association, Boulder Faculty Assembly Award for Excellence in Research, and CU Parents Association's Marinus Smith Award for excellence in teaching. His publications include an extraordinary twenty-eight books and about two hundred articles and chapters.

Our featured presenter for the month of August is John Berndt, former President of AT&T International Communication Services where he directed the planning, construction and management of the first transoceanic undersea fiber optic communication systems. Given this expertise and background, he will present and lead a discussion on “TransAtlantic Telephone 8 (TAT-8): The Project Management, Construction, and Geopolitical Implications of the World's First Transoceanic Undersea Fiber Optic Communication System.”

Bill Kellogg Discussion Series
Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 15 at 1:30-3:00 p.m. in the Boulder Creek Room of the Boulder Public Library. Our featured presenter is Dr. Keith Maskus who will speak and lead a discussion on “The High Costs of Trump's Tariff Games.”
Keith Maskus is Arts and Sciences Professor of Distinction in Economics, Emeritus, at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He was Chief Economist of the US State Department from 2016 to 2017 and a Lead Economist at the World Bank from 2001 to 2002. He was a Research Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics and a consultant for international organizations.

Bill Kellogg Discussion Series
Our next meeting will be held on Monday March 17 at 1:30-3:00 p.m. in the Boulder Creek Room of the Boulder Public Library. Our featured presenter is Dr. Kacper Gradon, Fulbright Professor and Visiting Research Professor at the Institute of Behavioral Science, CU Boulder. He is also Associate Professor in Cybersecurity (Warsaw University of Technology, Poland) and Honorary Associate Professor at University College London Department of Security and Crime Science. At CU Boulder, he pursues research in the application of crime prevention programs to the detection and mitigation of disinformation campaigns. His area of expertise is disinformation, hybrid and information warfare, Generative Artificial Intelligence applications in security, human-centric dimensions of cybersecurity and Future Crimes. He presented at over 200 conferences on all continents and is a triple TED(x) speaker

Intergenerational Model UN- Partnership with the Academy Boulder
You are cordially invited to register for the forthcoming first Intergenerational Model United Nations (IMUN), an inspiring event hosted at Academy Mapleton Hill (AMH) and organized by the United Nations Association of Boulder County (UNA-BC). This unique gathering will unite high school students with Model UN experience, UNA-BC members, and Academy residents to address the future of Syria through an intergenerational dialogue and simulated meeting of the UN Security Council on Syria.

International Human Rights Awards Recipient Celebration
Since 1996, the United Nations Association of Boulder County has celebrated local heroes who breathe life into the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This landmark 1948 document enshrines fundamental rights like life, liberty, education, and a decent standard of living.
This years recipient of the IHRA is Micklina Kenyi, Executive Director of Girls with Books. Come join us to celebrate Micklinas extraordinary contributions to girls' and women's empowerment in South Sudan. Micklina's dedication to providing access to quality education and promoting leadership skills has transformed the lives of countless young women. Her work embodies the spirit of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, promoting equality, education, and peace.

UN Day- Mountain Strong Against Human Trafficking
Come Celebrate UN Day and the work of the United Nations with UNA-BC. This year, our theme is Mountain Strong Against Human Trafficking, which aims to highlight both the global and local issues of Human Trafficking.

UNA-BC’s Education Committee presents the Bill Kellogg Discussion Series. This series highlights the work of various professionals in the community.
Our featured presenter this month is Professor Francisco Rodriquez, the Rice Family Professor of the Practice of International and Public Affairs at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies, University of Denver. The topic of his talk is “The Collapse of Venezuela: Scorched Earth Politics and Economic Decline, 2012-2020” which is also the title of his forthcoming book

Boulder Peace Faire
Working in collaboration as part of Boulder Peace Week, Boulder Rotary, The City of Boulder as well as Naropa University have sponsored a week full of community events! Discussion panels, peace making workshops, key note speakers, crafts, music, and fun activities are being hosted all week long throughout the greater Boulder area. All events are free, though some discussion panels require an RSVP.
