FACTSHEET

HB23-1136
PROSTHETIC DEVICES FOR RECREATIONAL ACTIVITY

This bill is important because many individuals are not able to afford prosthetic devices for recreational activity. This is a barrier for staying active and joining a sports team or gym. Prosthetics devices cost anywhere between $15,000-$70,000, depending on the specific type needed. Most are not covered by insurance and due to the costs for the device and medical appointments, many individuals cannot afford it. This bill will also ensure that individuals are not injured due to not having the correct prosthetic device.

Colorado

Many children like 6-year-old Clay love to play baseball, but the basic prosthetic leg they have pose a high risk of injury. Challenge Athlete Foundation donated a running prosthetic leg to Clay, which changed his life. There are many other kids and adults who want to be able to play a sport or engage in a recreational activity but are unable to do so. This bill will change the lives of many individuals who rely on using recreational prosthetic devices.

Safety - Equality

HB23-1136 would create equal opportunities for all individuals who need prosthetic devices. It would enhance safety by preventing accidents due to using incorrect prosthetic devices for recreational activities.

Hello,

My name is [insert your name] and I live in [your city/ZIP code].

I am urging you to support this legislation that would improve the lives of many Colorado residents. There is a large number of individuals who need prosthetic devices. Many of those individuals cannot practice sport because they cannot afford recreational prosthetic devices. Practicing sports and being part of the physical activity community shoould be more accessible to those community members. This bill will assure that people who need prosthetic devices are safe and will not injure themselves by using incorrect prosthetic devices for recreational activities.

Thanks for your attention.

Best,
