Debbie was born in Durban, South Africa during Apartheid. Her father was an immigrant from Malta and her mother’s parents were Irish. Debbie’s father was instrumental in making progressive changes in the labor conditions for black South Africans during a political time. At the time Nelson Mandela was released, Debbie spent a year in Chicago on a Rotary Exchange; she toured the U.S. speaking and learning about her country and the U.S.

She graduated from the University of Cape Town and then worked again in Chicago, where she met her American husband. The couple moved to South Africa and stayed for fifteen years, until 2016, when they moved to Boulder, Rick’s home town.

With her husband, Rick, she founded TLC, Training Leadership Consulting. She continues to run the online Leadership Center company.
